The McNaughstys

I went to the House of Blues for a friends birthday with some other people last Sunday. I heard some good stuff. There were bands such as Dead Avenue and Bruin Harmony. Dead Avenue sounded like they have some hardcore/metal influence and Bruin Harmony are an A-Capella band.

The McNaughstys are an Irish rock band who, according to their website, “have refined Irish style folk with Irish punk rock.” I thought they sounded pretty good!

I couldn’t get a good photo of them, however. My friend and I were not allowed to use our cameras because our lenses exceeded 50mm zoom. I guess we would have had to work for the venue or for the band to be able to do that. I did the next best thing and took a photo of them with my phone.

Check them out at their website!

Bent-Con

This convention was another first for me. It took place at the Marriot in Burbank. This convention is like any other convention except it celebrates LGBTQ (and allies) contributions to nerd culture. There was a cosplay contest, a runway show with cosplayers, a strip-tease show, some music, figure drawing, photo shoots, panels, one of which featured Anne Rice. During one of the shows being performed by cosplayers, I joked with my friend that we should do one with death metal.

It was a great convention and I hope to attend in 2015. Here is there website: http://bent-con.org/

West Hollywood Halloween 2014

Another fun Halloween in West Hollywood. It rained quite a bit though so I tried to keep my camera dry. Also, I didn’t realize how powerful my flash was.

Stan Lee’s Comikaze 2014

This was my first time at this particular convention. It was also my first time being approved for a Press badge at a convention!

This particular convention is smaller than the others, but it’s still fun to attend. The Exhibit Hall is the main attraction. There are even panels in there as well. I saw that there was a MadTV reunion panel going on. There were also well-known guests like Elvira and Stan Lee, but I didn’t get to see them. It was also on the first day that I went down to West Hollywood for Halloween. Those pictures will also be posted.

I had fun and I would definitely attend another Comikaze event!
